When I fell for you, I wanted to feel
Sand between my toes
Polishing my tarnished fragments
Smoothing the jagged edges,
Filling every cracked and broken
Crevice of my soul.
I wanted to feel
Feathers caressing my skin
Much like a newborn babe
In their mother’s loving arms,
Being cooed to sleep
With a voice the sweetness of honey.
Instead,
Falling for you was like
Tumbling into an abyss;
Swallowed in eternal darkness,
Falling deeper and deeper
Until I didn’t know
If I would even survive
The landing.
